I was looking at the website today for Strand. They are this giant bookstore in NYC and for whatever reason, I was browsing their website.

I came across this: Books by the Foot.

It’s so if you’re “building a library,” you can buy just random books by the foot.

If you want to look ultra fancy, you can go with the Antique Leather option:

All I can think of when I see this is on Anchorman when Will Ferrell says, “I have many leather bound books. My apartment smells of rich mahogany.” So funny.

If you want to look like you’re super artsy, you can get the Art Books by the foot:

If you want to look really “current” and “with it” you can go for the best sellers:

There is also the option of buying by subject or even getting bargain books by the foot. The whole idea of this just cracks me up. I have a hard time figuring out why someone would want all of these books that they have never read and presumably (since they aren’t even picking the titles) have no plans to read. To look smart? How smart do you look when someone’s like, “oh, how did you like this one?” “Didn’t read it.” “What about this one?” “Nope, didn’t read that one either.” “Have you read any of these?” “Nope, bought them by the foot, actually.” Huh? How bizarre.

They do point out on the site that you can use these for building a film or theater set, but only after they talk about decorating a room or building a library. I think books are great decoration but only because I love reading and I love discussing books with people that come over. They are a great conversation starter… but that’s because I’ve, you know, read them.

I just wish I had the problem of having more shelf space than I have books. This has never been a problem for me…

All this to say: people are funny. Buying books by the foot is hilarious. This made my day.
