I found some pretty sweet little libraries in this article at Apartment Therapy.

Here are a few:

Seems like the key is to use small, unused bits of space.  In our apartment, we 1) don’t have an entertainment center and 2) have our bookshelves rounding a corner in the living room.  This uses space that would be unusable otherwise.

For those of you with small spaces, how do you fit your books in?

Not pretty.

My parents came up for the weekend and, of course, I put my dad to work*.  On his birthday. Yeah, I’m that kind of daughter.

Anyway, a little problem was that the thermostat was right in the way of where I wanted my shelf.  He just cut a hole in the backing that’s big enough for us to see and move the little buttons and stuff.  I think it’s genius.

So here’s what we ended up with:

I’m pretty much in love.  I think that the extra shelf boosts this up to full tilt library.  My mom said that some small town libraries don’t have this many books. That’s kind of what I’m going for…. and I even have some room to grow!

*This was not his only project.  He also brought us a new mattress… which got damp in transit.  He got that dried out and moved, he put together our new bed frame, then bought, built and anchored my new shelves, and took our old bed to the Goodwill.  A saint, that man.

My shelves are color coded and I’m outgrowing them quickly.

How amazing is that?  The teal walls are kind of the most beautiful thing ever.

I’m pretty much ok with still being an apartment dweller, but stuff like this makes me ready to get a house so I can make Shaun do stuff like this for me

A book about bookshelves?  Yes, please!

It is one of those books that you can click on and “Look Inside” and yes, the inside looks just as great as the cover. Click over there and check it out. Yum.

This isn’t a book that I’d probably buy unless I found it cheap, but I hope I see it in the bookstore soon so I can drool over it for free.  I’ll let you know what I think.

I LOOOVE black shelves (I think that they make books “pop”) so these are totally drool inducing for me.
