To cap off YA week-and-a-half, I just wanted to talk about a few books that I still really want to read.
Since I only semi-recently got over my YA book snobbery, there are still a lot of books out there that I haven’t gotten a chance to read.
Here are just a few I can think of off of the top of my head:

Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson
From what I understand, this book has been challenged about a zillion times, but that has only served to make it more popular. It’s about a girl who gets raped and tells and then gets kind of publicly ostracized. It seems like a really painful but beautiful read and I have really only heard good things about it. I remember a year or so ago (has it been that long?) when there people were changing their Twitter pictures to say Speak Loudly in support of Laurie, but I really don’t know much about the book or the controversy surrounding it.

Paper Towns, by John Green
I really haven’t read much John Green, despite my every growing crush on him, so I need to get on that!

Will Grayson, Will Grayson, by John Green and David Levithan
We’ll include this in the “just need to read more John Green” category as well as the “I have friends who lost their effing minds over this book” category. I know absolutely zip about this book except for I love both of the authors, I love books written by more than one author and it has an amazing cover. So. That’s enough for me.

Love is the Higher Law, by David Levithan
While we’re talking David Levithan, I figured I would throw this one in. I don’t know why on earth I haven’t read it yet. I have had it on my radar since it came out and just haven’t gotten around to it. I really love everything else I’ve read by David Levithan and haven’t heard one bad review of this one, so it is on the TBR list for sure.

A Discovery of Witches, by Deborah Harkness
I figured I’d include something a bit newer on here. This was published this year and has gotten pretty good reviews. It is a book club book for my book club pretty soon, so I’m sure that I’ll go grab it from the library. I know absolutely nothing about it, but I love reading books for a discussion!
Is it bad that I assumed that because my book club was reading it that it is YA? Haha. I found out that this is, in fact, not YA, but I’m still looking forward to reading it
Alright, that’s all I can think of right off hand. What are other YA essentials that I’m still missing? Have you read any of these? What did you think? Are they worth my time?

Read Speak! Like, now!
Ditto Sarai, you need to read Speak first. It’s short and quick and amazing. Also, just so you know, Discovery of Witches isn’t YA. I’m only a few chapters in (I had to put it down for some other things) but it’s really good so far.
