Lovely Little Shelf

Friday Five (2)

1.  When Izey was really little, he became addicted to Ok Go’s White Knuckles video.  I think he loved that it was contrasty and has tons of dogs.  Anyway, that turned into us sitting at the computer and watching Ok Go videos… like… a lot.  I’ve seen them all maybe 41,000 times.  Just a couple of weeks ago, they had a new video come out.  It is Ok Go and The Muppets.  To say that Izey is pleased is an understatement…. but seriously, watch this.  It’s hilarious.

2. My little, teeny, baby brother turned TWENTY YEARS OLD on Sunday. Is that not insane? I cannot my head around it. It makes me feel way, way old. He was born 9/11/91. So 9/11/01 was his 10th birthday. That is one of my really clear memories of that day: it was this horrible, tragic thing but you can’t cancel a 10 year old’s birthday, so after he got home from school we still did cake and ice cream and presents and stuff, but I just remember that it felt like the heart had been sucked out of it. Poor feller.

Side note: Two years before that, on his 8th birthday, a tree in our back yard got struck by lightening, caught on fire, and we had to call the fire department. Fire trucks came. Firemen in uniforms, fire hoses, the whole bit…. Let me tell you, there is no better present for an 8 year old than a back yard full of real firemen.

3. Today, I went to the new thrift store in our town and got Isaac a play garden for THREE DOLLARS. Yes. Three dollars.

I know you can’t totally tell here, but it’s this little play garden thing with a little teeny door and a mailbox. He has played with it non-stop since we brought it home. The only thing better than a good deal is your kid letting you blog while they play with said good deal. :)

4. Shaun and I went to the movies last night. And dinner. And we were alone. And it was wonderful. We have only been alone a few times over the last year and every time I walk away feeling all refreshed and happy.

5. We saw Midnight in Paris with Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams. Rachel McAdams’ character wears way too many shirt dress/belt combos (it was distracting!) and is generally annoying. Owen Wilson’s character meets the Fitzgeralds, Picasso, Hemingway and gets his work in progress read by Gloria Stein. Yup, book nerds of the world need to get their buns to this movie. I looooved it.
