1. I am joining the handful of people who participate in the “Friday Five.” It is a meme, yeah, but it is much more laid back than all the ones with a million rules. From what I understand, I just think of five things… and make a numbered list where I ramble on and on. I wanted something that wasn’t entirely bookish and that let me talk about my normal life, so I’m going to give this a go. Let me know what you think.
2. News from my life as a Mom: Izey has finally started sleeping later! It’s not much, but 7:30 is so much more do-able than 6:30 and I am beyond grateful to him. Twice this week he has even slept past 8. Seriously. Greatest thing ever. Right now, he is cozy in bed, the sun is up already and I’m sitting here at the computer. Wonders never cease. An added note: I almost always call Isaac “Izey.” I’ve noticed that people who know him mostly from Facebook or this here blog tend to pronounce it “Izzy.” We say it more like Eye-Zee. Just for clarification. I mean, you can call him whatever you want, I just kind of laugh in my head when people call him Izzy.
3. I am considering giving up shampoo and conditioner. We have made the switch with all of our cleaning products: we use baking soda/vinegar/borax mixtures to clean our house. We save tons of money and know that we aren’t using harsh chemicals in areas where Isaac could get to them. I was talking to a friend recently who plans to travel overseas for the next year and she mentioned that she has switched to washing her hair with baking soda because it is more natural and it will be easier to come across in most parts of the world. So. Yesterday, I hoped in the shower with my box of baking soda and instead of shampoo and conditioner, I put some baking soda on my head. I did the same for Izey in his bath.
It seemed to work a bit better for Izey. His hair feels exactly the same as normal. Mine was a little bit frizzier, but that is probably because I either used too much or because I used chemical-y products afterwards. I did some reading and found that if I mix the baking soda with water first then put that mixture on my hair, it may work better. Also found that I can use apple cider vinegar for conditioner. And sugar and water for hairspray. My hair will be candy coated!
Or lemons, water and vodka. Ha.
Anyway, this is something that I’m messing around with right now. Has anyone else tried any of this? Any pointers…. or is this just too crazy for you?
4. I was bored the other day and took a little trip to Hobby Lobby. Our Hobby Lobby is in the building that used to be our Border’s, so I am admittedly a little bit annoyed that it has to exist, but I decided to venture in and see what treasures awaited me. First- they have Christmas stuff up. Not just a few things. We’re talking aisles and aisles. For serious. And, to make it worse, I saw several women buying stuff. Tons of stuff. Second- I am a little obsessed with all the doll house miniatures. Please, Lord, make our next child be a girl who is born wanting a doll house. Third- I bought some fabric. I haven’t sewn anything for the better part of a year and it is something that I love doing and totally miss. It is pretty polka-doty fabric that was only 4 dollars a yard. I bought two yards. Not entirely sure what I’m going to do with it yet, but I need new PJ pants, so I’m leaning in that direction. I’ll show you when I finally make something.
5. I need some new music to listen to. In a bad way. Is it bad that I don’t remember the last time that I bought new music? I have a playlist called “Cooking Music” that I turn on for cooking or cleaning. I keep all my favorite songs here so I can sing along while I do un-fun chores. I haven’t added a song for 4 months. Please. Guide me in the right direction. We have Spotify, so I can even check it out for free, but I’d love an album that I can buy and enjoy from start to finish. I like folksy, guitary, raspy voice music. My brother teases me and says that I don’t like anything with a beat, and while that is not entirely true, he’s on the right track. Thoughts?

Jacki! I adore the Bookfessions post. I cannot stop smiling and can’t stop reading them!
Do you like Iron and Wine? Shepherd’s Dog is one of my favorite albums. Christina Courtin (Foreign Country), Citizen Cope, Dave Barnes, Depeche Mode, Sara Barilles, Duffy, A Fine Frenzy, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, IAMX, Lissie (Everywhere I Go), Mackintosh Braun (The Sound), Real Estate, She and Him, Tunng (October), Club 8, White Lies (Farewell to the Fairground), Charlotte Martin, and Temper Trap. Rick Astley and Erasure, just because they’re so fun. I totally just went through my ipod and picked out my favorites that I thought you might like.
The cleaning/cooking playlist is an outstanding idea.

I don’t know if any of those are new to you, but hopefully you can find something good there.
I was on swim team in elementary – high school and I used baking soda to keep the chlorine from turning my hair green. It was pretty harsh on my hair though – I never used it without conditioner because it would be all frizzified and I usually used a mixture of baking soda and shampoo. I still use it occasionally as a clarifier.
