Lovely Little Shelf

Bookish Thoughts: Vacation Books

I haven’t posted for the last couple of days because we are on a little mini-vacation with my parents and nephew.

Here’s what I want to report: I love my family.

Between us, here is the book stash we brought for a 4 day vacation:

I brought: Memoirs of a Geisha (which I finished), John Quincey Adams (which I am reading little-by-little), The Realm of Possibility (which I am now reading), Shadow Baby (in case I want to read a novel next) and Claim of Privilege (in case I want to read non-fiction next).

I brought for Isaac:  7 or 8 picture books which he’s been looking at all morning while we’ve been getting ready.  They include The Giving Tree, Brown Bear, Dinosaurs Love Underpants, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and a handful of other little board books and fun picture books.

My nephew Dominic brought:  A book about the presidents, a big stack of books from the library about different states and countries, and a couple little storybooks.

My mom brought:  Michael J. Fox’s memoir (which she finished last night), Rick Bragg’s newest book (which she just started), 3 or 4 magazines and the NYT Book Review.

Seriously.

I didn’t count, but I would guess that we’re looking at 30 or so books.  Luckily, the non-readers (Shaun & Bob) are the ones hauling our bags around so we don’t have to worry about lifting our mobile library. :)

That is definitely A LOT of books! But sounds like a great time. I am reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest and that book in itself weighs a few pounds. Don’t think I would like carrying around another.

Oh my, that’s a lot of books. I’m always very thankful for my kindle when I go on vacation, otherwise, most of my luggage would be filled with books!
