Rich Mullins Movie!

Ok, so this is going to be one of the few non-book related posts that you’ll see around here, but I just heard about this and I’m so excited that I have to share.

If you don’t know who Rich Mullins is, please do a little bit of Googling and youtubing and listen to some of his music.  It is pretty beautiful.

He was a Christian singer who was killed tragically in a car accident in 1997.  He was way too young to die and it was maybe the saddest thing ever.

Before his death, he lived kind of this really amazing life.  He loved God and nature and people and art and the church.  He didn’t care about money or fame or works.

Years after his death, in 2000ish, I picked up a book (so it IS book related!) called Rich Mullins: An Arrow Pointing to Heaven, and it is just this incredible biography of Rich’s life and how he ended up this famous singer who wore old tee-shirts and lived with friends and never really understood how much money he had.

I fell in love with Rich’s life and just how he loved Jesus- just in this really pure, comfortable, meaningful way.  It changed how I saw Christianity and even how I saw Christ.  I read it maybe 10 times and then read Brennan Manning and all these other authors who kind of fell in the same line of thinking.  Rich’s music and his life and this handful of books have been some of the most influential things in my life.

SO!  Here’s the thing:  his brother and a few other guys are in the process of putting together a movie about Rich.

They are doing it on their own, not through a studio.  They have set up a kickstarter page to help raise money and I just went over today and donated a little.  Really think about doing the same.  The incentives are fun and the goal is great and… just do it, or at least think about it.

If nothing else, go check out their website and check out the trailers and get a feel for the project.

I’m way, way fangirl overstimulated by this and think that you should be too!

Blog-hopping by! Thanks so much for this post–I loved Rich Mullins’ music in high school, and I had no idea they were working on a movie about him. Today you were my news source about one of my favorite artists! Thank you.

Rich left us so soon. . . but he left us with his music, his art, his love.

Hippocrates said, “Life is short, art is long.” I’m glad he was right.

What will it be like when we see Richard again? Maybe at the Wedding Feast he’ll teach us all better table manners, like he always tried to do with me. Maybe a food fight will suddenly break out for the sheer joy and mischief of it, or maybe he’ll sneak out and change into waiters’ clothes like he did at the Dove awards.

Barefoot on the golden streets, marking the rythym of God’s own heartbeat. The best song ever.
