Yay! Blog Hop is back after the holidays. Fridays have felt weird without having this fun little post and I’m so glad to be back. The Hop is hosted by Jenn over at Crazy For Books and is a fun way to get to know new bloggers. If you’re here for the first time, so glad you made it.
We had great holidays and I even got a couple shiny new books in my stocking. What could be better?
It was great to get to see family and friends but it is also so great to be back home. Shaun is in the middle of his second four day weekend in a row and I cannot even say how great it is to have him home. We’ve gotten a lot of little chores marked off of our to-do list and just really gotten to spend quality time together. It’s been pretty wonderful. Hope that everyone else’s week is going great too.
Alright! Down to business! The question this week is: “What book influenced your life? How did it influence/change you?”
That’s a hard one because there have been so many books that have really changed my perspective or stuck with me in big ways. Probably the one that really changed how I saw life and is still influencing me is Rich Mullins: An Arrow Pointed to Heaven by James Bryan Smith.
Rich Mullins was a Christian singer during the 80’s and 90’s. He died in a car accident when he was pretty young but left a pretty incredible legacy. This book is a devotional biography of his life written by one of his close friends. He lived in a really different and incredible way. He had this view of God’s love and grace that I had never heard of. Unlike so many Christian speakers and authors, he was just all about love. He was a simple guy and he served God simply. When I read this book, I was totally bowled over that someone like that had managed to live in our current time. It encouraged me to take ahold of grace and love in ways that I didn’t really realize where possible before. I read this in high school and read it again and again and again. I can still quote from it. I read it again a couple of years ago and realized just how many of those ideas were still strongly influencing me. Really, really good stuff.
Again, if you’re here from the Hop, thanks for stopping by! Leave a comment with a link to your blog and I’ll be sure to repay the visit!

Just hopping by. I’m glad the hop is back, too, and your answer was a good one. It’s important to acknowledge how books affect us.

This will probably come of something as a surprise but the book that changed/influenced my life (more than any other) is a non-fiction book. I know we all focus on novels and the fanciful fiction we love to read but The Four Work Week is the book that gets all the credit. I know the title sounds fictional but it really isn’t. Hop over to my blog and find out why – http://www.howardsherman.net
