Lovely Little Shelf

Bookish Thoughts: Time’s Lists (Part Two)

I know that I’ve  blogged about their list making skills before, but I can’t get enough. I love lists. I love books. I’m all about this.

Here are some I was checking out today:

This is 10 books you were forced to read in school.  I have really mixed feelings on high school English in general. I was already super into reading when I was in high school but would get totally annoyed about the books that they made us read.  No wonder there are tons of people out there that think that they hate reading… really they just hate reading stupid books.  I did read all of these in high school except for A Farewell to Arms.  Some of them I liked. Some, not so much.

This is a cool one.  I love hearing writers talk about books and what they are reading.  This is 24 authors talking about what they recommend you read this summer.  So the list is a little dated. Ah well.  It is fun to read anyway.  Also, some great recs.

Another case of author talking about books.  This is a list of Jonathan Franzen’s recommended reads.  He’s kind of been everywhere lately I feel like.  Here he is again. Enjoy.

And this one has nothing to do with books, but is pretty fun nonetheless.  This is a list of Top Ten Things that Today’s Kids Will Never Experience.  Isaac will certainly experience camera film (as his dad is obsessed with cameras) and paper books (obviously), but the rest of them are pretty true and a little sad. Is it silly to be nostalgic over Nick at Nite?  If so, oh well, because I am.

I wish that there were a companion list to the 10 Books You Were Forced to Read in HS. It could be called something like 10 Books Teachers are Forced to Teach Year After Year. Because it’s true. Some us of have very little say and have to go with what our school board decides. Others have more say. I stage rebellions.

    Thanks for the lists!
