Lovely Little Shelf

When the first Harry Potter first came out, my brother had just learned to read.  I loved reading out loud to him and we almost always had a book going.  For Christmas that year, my mom bought us this book.  We’d never heard of Harry Potter before but we gave it a go.  We gave up right after he gets to Hogwarts.  We thought it was lame.

Months later, I started hearing about Harry Potter everywhere.  I remember Dalton and I having a conversation where we were like, “No way is it that same stupid book that we started…” So we dug it out and… sure enough… everyone was obsessed with this book that we thought was pretty stupid.

For the next 10 years or so, I rolled my eyes every time someone said that they were in love with the Harry Potter books.  I figured I had given them a go and they were crap and all these people had bad taste or something. People’s jaws would drop when they heard that me, reader of all readers, was not a Harry Potter nerd.

Last year, Jason and Kendall put the series in a bag and brought it when they were coming to visit.  I’m pretty sure that they knew that I couldn’t resist the pull of a bag of books.  They left it with me. They were right, I couldn’t resist.

I started them and was still kind of eye-rolly about it but decided to really give it a solid chance this time.  Somewhere during the middle of the third book or so, my eye rolling stopped and I kind of fell in love.  I straight up devoured the series in a way that left me just about breathless at the end. It was marathon reading.  And I was a fan.

I’ve decided to re-read the series because of how fast I read it the first time through.  I didn’t even slow down and I know that there are parts that I missed or that I forget or glossed over.  I didn’t have my blog yet when I read them last time, so this time I’m going to blog about them as I go.

I do want to warn you that my posts will contain spoilers.  I’ll remind you again at the top of each post.  I just figure that everyone and their mother has read these books, so I’m not spoiling too many people and it’s hard to talk about book 5 or 6 without letting some spoilers slip, so I’m just going to go ahead and let you guys know from the get-go that my posts may be spoilery.

Anyway! I’m super excited about this and am looking forward to re-living all the fun.  I’m also excited because after I read Jason and Kendall’s copies, of course I had to give them back… now for my re-read, I’ll be forced to obtain my own set.  Amazon, here I come.
