Lovely Little Shelf

Bookish Tools: Flashlight Worthy Books

I’ve been watching this site for a couple of months and I’m totally obsessed with it.

As I admitted in my last post, I am a list keeper. I  love lists in general.  This site, Flashlight Worthy Book Recommendations, is chock full of lists.

Some of them are your standard bookish lists, “Best Book Club Selections of 2009″ and “Books set in New York City.” But what makes this site really great is that most of the lists are totally out of left field.

Shall I compose a list?

- “Books about Hamburgers (from a Tempted Vegan)”

- “Best Books for Poetic Seduction”

- “The Best Books on Raising Urban Chickens”

-”Books about TV Game Shows”

-”They’re Female. They’re Pirates. They’re Female Pirates”

I could go on and on.

If wading through all these crazy list seems a little too messy to you, know that all of their lists are divided up into dozens of easier-to-take-in categories.  There is a Graphic Novels category, a Book Club Recs category, a Fiction category, and many, many more.

From what I can gather, this site is mostly put together from reader contributions and is run by just 2 guys.  They invite you to email them if you have a good recommendation or a whole new list idea.   The design is simple and easy to click through.

I also stumbled onto an article that the founders wrote about buying/not buy a Kindle.  Pretty interesting.

Anyway.  Check out this site.  Watch your list of books you need to read grow even more!

(I just counted and I used the word “list” 9 times in about as many sentences.  Someone want to loan me a thesaurus?)
