I think that this is the way that you can tell if you are a compulsive reader: Do you keep stats?
I have been a serious reader my whole life, but only in the last couple of years have I started keeping track of number of books read, number of pages read, and doing crazy stuff like setting goals for the next year.
My goal for 2009, initially, was to read 100 books. After reading 25 in January, I realized that I was going to have to up my number. I settled on 200 books, and just last week I made it! I ended up at 201, which even kind of makes me an overachiever, right?
Anyway. Here’s my end-of-the-year stats for 2009:
Books Read: 201
Pages Read: 71,468
Average Pages Per Book: 356
Best Reading Month: January- 8436 pages
Worst Reading Month: December- 3174 pages
Monthly Breakdown:

November 6225
December 3174
Longest Book Read: Under The Dome, by Stephen King- 1074 pages
Shortest Book Read: The Way of the Heart, by Henri Nouwen- 78 pages

Haha!! I do think that makes you an over achiever.
This is the first year that I decided to count the books I am reading. I started my blog in 2009 and it made me realize the amount of books I read so starting off fresh in 2010 I decided to start a tally. Next year I will set a goal I think. Happy reading in the new year!!
Lauren
P.S. I love the “Days Spent Reading” stat!
